Online Hub Educational Services has received funding from Google’s CS Educator Grants Programme for Professional Development in the delivery of Computer Science Curriculum for Secondary school teachers with experience teaching CS and other STEM discipline in the 6-Southwest States of Nigeria.
With the high demand for computer literacy, the teaching and learning of these skills is a concern among professionals, as the poor foundation of teachers in computer science and lack of instructional aids contribute to the problems of teaching CS effectively to students.
Online Hub Educational Services through its ongoing initiative tagged, “One Student – One Skill”, which commenced in July, 2017, has trained over 2,000 students across the region, on five (5) basic Computer-themed skills in the area of Website Development, Graphics Design, Coding & Programming, Photography and Applied Digital Skills.
This PD programme aims at creating online training modules for CS educators in line with the obtainable CS curriculum as approved by the National Educational Research and Curriculum Development and the Universal Basic Education Board to cover specific and core aspects of CS which includes; Programming Language & Steps, Networking Topology, Database Management, Computer Software, Hardware & Communication Systems.
We are glad to announce that Online Hub Educational Services is the only awardee of the 2018 Google CS Educators Grant in Nigeria (out of a total of thirty-one institutions across sixteen countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa).
This PD exercise will allow us to effect important improvement to CS delivery for Secondary education whilst making more impacts in our Community of Practice here in Nigeria.
